Dear Parent/ Student,

In order for each child to have the opportunity to succeed, there are rules and procedures to guard our classroom’s behaviors and activities. The procedures and rules will be introduced in the classroom as needed. Check the classroom website for any update. Please, discuss these rules and procedures with your students and have them to sign the Student/Teacher Contract.

Reading/ ESOL Subject Description:
Students will be exploring different strategies to master the Reading & ELA of Texas Education Knowledge Skills. Instruction and learning will cover phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students will be challenged to use critical thinking strategies to apply reading strategies in all subjects and everyday setting.
Resources:
Students will be using different books, Technology resources, and library books. Students should have a book in the Ziploc/ envelop for their daily reading. Students are supposed to check out books from the school library. They also can check out books from the classroom library for not more than a week that can be renewed.
Needed Supply:
2 pocket folder
2 Notebook Journal (Vocabulary/ Study Guide & Classroom Journal/ Homework Journal)
markers, sharpened pencils, pens, high lighter
sticky notes, index cards, 1 big size of Ziploc, flash drive
Grades/ Homework Policy
Students will be grades weekly on his/her participation, homework, Notebook Vocabulary/ Study Guide journal, Daily classroom work, Reading Log/ projects, and tests. 1 bonus grade is allowed to be earned every 6 weeks by submitting a book report or attending Tutoring sessions. (Student’s book choice)
Daily Homework:
Students are expected to spend 33 minutes daily between reading and writing.
Reading aloud: 13 min.
Silent Reading 17 min.
Reflecting : 3 min.
Homework & Classwork Journals will be placed on the desk for a daily grade during sponge activity ( the first 5 minutes of the class). Syllabus is to be stapled in the home folder but return the Student/Teacher Contract.

If I need to get your attention, I will simply raise my hand and wait quietly and patiently.
It should take less than 5 seconds for the class to get quiet and hear instructions.
